SCROLL, SCROLL! IS AN EXHIBITION PROJECT THAT DEALS WITH TEXTURES IN THE DIGITAL CONTEXT.
THOSE DIGITAL "SKINS". THEY SERVE HERE AS TEXTURES THAT EXPAND THROUGH THE BODIES OF THE WORKS AND THROUGH THE SPACE, INTEGRATING AND MAKING THE SPECTATORS PART OF THE DIGITAL SPACE. USING THE INTERFACE THAT WE HAVE ALREADY TAKEN ON IN OUR EVERYDAY IMAGINARY, SPOTIFY.
THE PROPOSAL DEEPLY ON THE DISSOLUTION OF THE PHYSICAL AND DIGITAL BORDERS, THE DIGITAL AESTHETIC AS A FUNDAMENTAL PART OF OUR CURRENT IMAGINARY AND THE OVERFLOW OF THE MASSIVE CONSUMPTION OF INFORMATION.
FOR THOUSANDS OF YEARS, EARTH RESOUCES HAVE BEEN EXTRACTED BY BODIES, MOST OF WHOM WERE NOT FREE. BUT NOW, IT'S OUR BODIES, AND OUW SELVES, BEING EXTRACTED. AND MOSTLY WE OFFER IT UP FOR FREE. FROM THIS SENTENCE OF SHUMON BASSAR AND HANS ULRICH OBRIST THE SERIES OF WORKS OF "SCROLL, IT'S FREE" IS ARTICULATED, WHOSE PRODUCTION STILL CONTINUES. THE 20TH CENTURY WAS ABOUT WHO BELONGS TO WHOM, WHILE THE 21ST CENTURY IS ABOUT WHO BELONGS TO WHAT. EACH OF US, BROADLY SPEAKING, HAS CONTRIBUTED TO BECOMING THE MAIN SOURCE OF CONSUMPTION AROUND US. OUR "FOLLOWERS", AND WHO WE "FOLLOW", THEY HAVE BECOME OUR CONSUMERS, PERSONALIZED OR DEPERSONALIZED, IN A SORT OF SOCIAL CANNIBALISM IN WHICH WE ALL PARTICIPATE. THUS, THE ELEGANT AND MALICIOUS TRINOMIAL OF DATA - PRODUCT - USER - (DATA AGAIN) IS FULFILLED, FROM WHICH TODAY, ESPECIALLY FOR THE NEW GENERATIONS, MILLENNIALS AND Z GENERATIONS, IT IS DIFFICULT TO ESCAPE. WE ARE TRIGGERED, WE ARE BECOMING A PERSON AND ALSO AN OBJECT, FOR MANY WE ARE NOTHING MORE IMPORTANT THAN OUR PROFILE IMAGE, THAT DELETED COMMENT, THAT SHARED MEME, THAT POSTED VIDEO, THAT VULNERABILITY SHARED WITH THE STRANGER. THIS PROJECT BRINGS TOGETHER A SELECTION OF IMAGES IN WHICH DIFFERENT BODIES ARE APPEAR, SOMETIMES EXPLICITLY, SOMETIMES ALONE AND SOMETIMES IN A GROUP, BUT ALWAYS FROM A COLD, ASEPTIC AND VERY DIGITAL VISION. THESE BODIES APPEAR CONVERTED INTO THE NEW PRODUCT THAT WE CONSUME DAILY: THE INTERFACE OF SPOTIFY, AMAZON, INSTAGRAM OR PORNHUB. THOUSANDS OF VIDEOS (YOUTUBE, PORNHUB, TIKTOK...), SONGS (SPOTIFY), LOCATIONS (GOOGLE MAPS), AND OTHER PRODUCTS (AMAZON...) APPEAR "SCROLLING" LIKE A HUGE LIBRARY, AND THE BODIES ARE READY TO BE CONSUMED. THE CORPORATE IMAGE OF THE LARGE MULTINATIONALS IN THE DIGITAL AGE IS EXPANDING, BECOMING THE PACKAGING THAT REPRESENTS US. THEY END UP BEING PART OF OUR NEEDS JUST LIKE THE SKIN WE INHABIT.
